[Year 12 SofDev] Re: VITTA PD 2008 - PHP & MySQL - Registrationsnow open

Perhaps doing it all on-line - for metro-people as well - might cost less in
resources in the long run. Obviously you are not going to get huge numbers
wanting a specific PD in any one small country area, so a personally
presented PD is just not feasible. Done that at my own school in Traralgon
and via the (does it still operate) Gourmet PD in the Latrobe Valley area.

So please let us think of all the technologically possible options. VITTA
should have that expertise.

On behalf of VITTA I'd like to say that we are constantly looking at
different methods of delivery of PD and also meeting the needs of teachers
in rural regions. As you can imagine it can be a complex problem.

We had PD on offer in both Barwon Sth West and Gippsland region last year
that we had to cancel due to lack of interest (I know, because I was to
present in Warrnambool). Whether we targeted the wrong PD, or we didn't
promote widely enough we are not sure. So feedback from teachers is
essential.

While online delivery of PD may be an option, at the end of the day someone
will have to write, build and deliver the online modules. If someone is
putting their hand up to develop this, VITTA would love to hear from them..
If anyone has any ideas or issues regarding PD needs and delivery, please
contact us.

Cheers
Kelly Beattie

Good on you Judee!

I am now down in "The Big Smoke", since 2005, but spent the previous 27
years in the Valley. And always the same problems with PD - in all areas not

just IT.

A two hour session in Melbourne means, for a Valley person, at least four
hours driving plus the session time. Given a 4:00pm start the teacher will
also have to take the afternoon off to drive down in time. And then of
course does not get back home til 8:00pm or later

So given these 5-session programs, this means that to receive 10 hours of PD

on PHP and MySQL the Valley person will have to also invest in at least 20
hours of driving and be released from school on five afternoons. Also of
course cost concerns re car usage.

Not the way to go!

How about more on-line PD or other more innovative strategies to bring the
PD to our "country cousins"

Hi Listers

Some examiners have been known to stop reading as soon as they have
allocated full marks for a Question

Others point out that if contradictory material is there then clearly
the student has not directly answered the question as it was asked.

In IT, questions are usually phrased such that students answer a direct
question or respond to a statement so contradictory material is rare.
Far more often there is a lack of material...

Note also that if the question asks for two reasons and the student
gives three then only the first two are usually marked and if one of
them is wrong and the third is correct then bad luck....
