>From advice from Multimedia Victoria, and from the anecdotal experience
of some teachers of Unit 2 this year, the direct involvement of students
with a 'real client'/audience is a winner in terms of student
engagement. This situation provides opportunities for exposure to a
range of careers, and has the potential to show how varied IT careers
can be and the place that IT plays in industry. I think that direct
industry links with schools is a potentially effective strategy.
Employees could be mentors to students and teachers; schools could visit
these organisations for work observation; the organisations could
provide 'real life' scenarios for class discussion; work experience
placements could be created for some students etc.

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] GDAA conference panel - advice

Hi everyone (and apologies for the cross-posts),

I have been invited to take part in a panel discussion session at the
GDAA (Game Developers Association of Australia) on the 15th November.
Also on the panel will be various stakeholders - including games
programmers, ministers, tertiary reps., etc.

The panel's brief is to discuss the falling enrolments in ICT and how to
encourage students to undertake careers in the IT industry / games
industry. I have some of my own ideas in this regard, but wanted to
take some of the ideas / suggestions of all of you to the panel. So -
any advice or points to bring up - in the flavour of ways in which we
feel would 'they' can help us, would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Adrian
