Call for Presentations

The Moodlemoot AU 2011 committee is now accepting submissions to present at
what will be Australia's largest ever Moodle conference.

Moodlemoot AU 2011 will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition
Centre at Darling Harbour from Sunday the 17th to Wednesday the 20th of July
2011. With the 2010 Moodlemoot in Melbourne being a sell-out success with
over 460 delegates, the 2011 Moot in Sydney will be able to accommodate even
more delegates and offer more flexibility in attendance models. Here's your
chance to be involved! 

This year, the themes of the conference have been identified as:

*	Move to Moodle
Strategies and techniques used to evaluate or deploy Moodle 2.0
successfully.
*	Moodle Showcase
'One-way' presentations of papers, research and case studies of smart
practices, outstanding examples, lessons learned and success stories.
*	Breaking Barriers
Using Moodle to support students at risk, indigenous/remote education,
language learning, etc.
*	Integrating & Extending Moodle 
Covers any other tools that people have used and/or are developing, looking
to develop in conjunction with Moodle to enhance learning
*	Moodle How Tos
Showing, actively working with others on how to set up and complete various
components of Moodle.
*	The Moodle Community
About community, collaboration and sharing, places/people to go to, ways of
helping, Moodle Docs, connections, etc.

If you are submitting an abstract then please be aware that preference will
be given to abstracts which clearly relate to one or more of the above
themes, and you should indicate which of the above (more than one if
appropriate) your presentation relates to. This Moodlemoot aims to provide a
blend of 'hands on' experience combined with more traditional presentations,
and hence four options are available for potential presenters:

25 minute presentation
A 25 minute presentation slot (ideally 20 minutes plus question time), in
which you will present in a lecture-style format in a conference room with
an internet-ready podium and a projector. Presenters are encouraged to be
creative with their presentation methods rather than feeling obliged to
deliver a Powerpoint presentation. 

25 minute panel discussion
A 25 minute presentation slot, in which you will be provided with a room set
up with chairs and table at the front for the panel (usually 3-5 people).
The session will provide an opportunity for the participants to hear several
people knowledgeable about a specific issue or topic present information and
discuss personal views. 

25 minute demonstration
A 25 minute presentation slot (ideally 20 minutes plus question time), in
which you will present a demonstration in a conference room with an
internet-ready podium and a projector.  Presenters are encouraged to be
creative and where possible to present their demonstrations in real-time.
Feedback from previous Moodlemoots has indicated that audiences appreciate
the use of live examples, demonstrations, audience interaction and anything
else that avoids 'death by Powerpoint'.

90 minute workshop
A 90 minute workshop slot, in which you will be provided with a room set up
classroom style, with power running to all tables and wireless access
available, as well as having an internet-ready podium and projector
available. Participants will pre-register for workshops, there will be a
maximum of 25 participants per workshop, and you are free to deliver a
session on anything Moodle related, with the understanding that it should be
a participative workshop, not a presentation. Some slots will already be
filled with generic 'introduction to Moodle' sessions, so please relate your
workshop to the workshop themes above.

What you need to submit

Potential presenters will be asked to submit:

1.	an abstract of up to 250 words describing what the presentation is
about and who will be presenting
2.	an indication of who would benefit from attending
3.	an indication of which theme or themes the presentation relates to

How to submit

Submissions are open until the COB on the 8th of April.
Please note: Workshop abstract submissions close on the 7th of March.

What is the process from there?

Once the due date (8th of April) for presentation submissions has been
reached, the Moodlemoot Advisory Committee will review abstracts and select
the presentations and workshops which best align with the conference themes,
and advise all submitters of the outcomes of the process no later than the
20th of April.

Are there any other rules I need to know about when submitting?

Yes. Please bear in mind that:

1.	Presentations/workshops should be informative and educational in
nature, and not be of a commercial nature (i.e. promoting services offered
by your company);
2.	Presentations/workshops should have Moodle as the core component of
the presentation, but you are welcome to include other complementary
technologies as appropriate;
3.	If your presentation/workshop is accepted, you will need to attend
as a paid delegate for at least the day on which you are presenting. The
organising committee will distribute a draft program as soon as possible to
presenters for those who only plan to attend one day to assist your travel
planning.
