[Moodle] Re: Mr Moodle

Hi Julian and Ros and Roland and fellow moodlers,

  One area I find hard is assessment and feedback for students. It seems moving a question up or down is very slow ( one step at a time ). I also like to give students feedback that shows if they got a question fully correct ( Green light ) or if they lost some marks ( amber light ) or if they lost all the marks ( red light ). I usually download the results to a spreadsheet, conditionally format each question with colour formatting, then save. Problem is all students see all other student results to say nothing of the time it takes me to do this for each class.

 Anyone out there including our very humble but very highly regarded Mr Moodle to give us some pointers on how to both write assessments and to give feedback more easily for the teachers who has to set all this up ?  Even the ability to import from other file types such as tab or comma delimited questions in a text file could be more flexible I feel. The teachers need to rewrite assessment tasks to get them on moodle and sometimes opt for the faster option and stick with paper as they don't want to put in the time.
 Also one of our most eager Moodle users often uses surveymonkey.com for quick surveys rather than use moodle for the same reasons.

I must couch all this with the caveat that we are on Moodle 1.8.3 and are looking at upgrading to 2.0 very soon.

Hi Julian - You are THE MAN !! And yes, you are famous too, a simple theme of yours which I adapted for my school blew Roland away...lol, but YOU had done all the hard work - thank you

Very cool! Just a matter of setting up a role and asigning it to the appropriate student (s). It can be a pain to manage .. see Moodle 2.0~
