Hey, what about me!
I have an old machine at home which only has win98 on it and no network stuff or NIC's (strictly standalone), still running a 450Mhz processor and 512 meg RAM and it flies! (but chucked the screen and printer as they karked it! so I just have the box now...
Could I use that?
Can I come?
When and Where, if its a weekend,..I'm in!

What the heck, I've done so much new stuff in 07.. may as well try this too!

Can I, please...?
Kent.

Cripes .. Andrew, Alan, Kevork and Phil .. looks as if there is heaps of interest from you all on this list towards running an installfest!! I have a dozen of the ye olde Acer 5100 "digital divide" computers that we can trash and rebuild. Perhaps we could build servers in the morning and use software in the afternoon. :-)

I have suggested my school as a venue on a Saturday, early February, could also rustle up a BBQ for lunch. Otherwise drop me a line off list with some suggestions. :-)

I would love to get involved in this also. we want to implement moodle in the near future and we also run first class.

hope we can make it happen.

This could be fun. I've always wanted to install a LAMS server and see how it works with Moodle. Also playing around with virtual machines could add an interesting dimension. Wad-y-ya think! Is this doable?

Does sound like a cool summer project. I had fun rebuiding some of the old digital divide computers to run Ubuntu. Taught me heaps about Linux (yes, my world didn't end, my milk didnt go off and I didnt start wearing funny T-Shirts) Even motivated some girls to do more with IT .. Say, numbers for VCE IT have gone up to three classes next year (gasp)

A Moodle install fest, sounds like fun :-)

	Hmmm - Makes me wonder...
Linux Users Victoria runs 'install' fests from time to time.

I wonder if I could arrange to buy a few 'old' machines from
Computerbank, and arrange a moodle install fest?

Say - $100 bucks for an old machine, then we sit around install linux,
apache, mysql, php and moodle... in the morning, and in the afternoon
set up courses and share tips and tricks for making moodle sing?

Could this be a summer break project for the VIC moodlers?

Then you take the box into school - plug it in (or whack a wireless card
in it) - do some tricky stuff to get a static IP - and voila!

	Peter - could that work?

On the other hand - if your techs really won't let you - we do host a
few moodle sites for others who've not been able to get access to the
infrastructure inside the school. Or do as Ros has done, and get a host
	that let's you DIY.
