Hi Ros,

This is great. I propose a therapy session slotted in somewhere for next year's VITTA conference to be chaired and run by you.
We could all use the considered advice as well as the entertainment !!
Better still , why not go for keynote for one of the days ......... ???????

You have to work on creating a thick skin Kent - here are some hints

1. Spend a large amount of time in the sunshine (it turns your
skin to leather)

2. Grow old (ditto above)

3. Smile continuously (does nothing for the thickness of your skin
but makes you feel better)

4. Keep applying for new jobs

5. Become the school gardener

I have not been able to get moodle happening at all for the whole year
- the techs are not interested and don't know how, when they call in
"the experts" it costs money and still doesn't work!

If I could have access to the system I know I could make it work - I
even set up a website (offsite on a commercial server - domain name and
server paid for by me, installed MRBS and numerous other addons) to
PROVE that if I had access I could get it working but still nothing.
They don't see any reason why I should have administrative access (I
think they are scared I might 'break it')

You can keep on fighting, put your energies into other ventures (mine is
the report coordination - love QuickVic - yeh NOT), or shrug your
shoulders and give up. Or find another job (I did that too for a year),
or wait for a change of guard!!

Good luck with whatever road you follow - but stay positive, and do keep
smiling!!!!

Cheers

Ros

I'm getting really jealous of you guys! Its becoming more and more here
like what Ros told me its like at her place of work. I put proposals in
for next years development/upgrade as we were invited to, but, do you
think I've got ANY feedback...nup! Not even a thanks for my
suggestions....

Makes you wonder why we bother!

Still here next year, after that, who knows? Am just about to sit my
last exam to qualify me to VCE/HSC maths levels via the Grad Cert
Maths(ACUonline) (having previously taught up to y10 maths for the past
10 or so years) so I could be bribed if the offer is right!!

On another tack, I'd love to be a party to any moodle or similar PD that
is being run, just to expand my skill base, even though it all
'techie-centric' here. (he's a local and I'm not, simply put).

Hi Stephen,

I was trying to resist but I won't hold back any longer to unveil the
Forest Hill College (FHC) Ultranet.

Using the PHP and MySQL book as a starting point a system has been built
running off the Apache server..
Student or teacher logs on at the intranet with an icon called " MyFHC"
. They are authenticated against Novell using LDAP.

If successful the script extracts their timetable from First Class on
the MSSQL server. It then draws their timetable with
hyperlinks to the Moodle class that subject is connected to. It also
shows a class list link with student details such as logon
code, full name, email , and any other info. On clicking the subject in
the timetable it seamlessly enters the Moodle class without
a logon through passing of variables used in a session ( version 2 of my
book to cover this ) !!!

For this to happen moodle is being reinitialised each year so that a
script will go to the First Class timetable database , extract
all classes and then create these in the MySQL database moodle is
installed in. Thereafter, teachers will be allocated as well as
students to each course. This is written in PHP.

Using LDAP to carry through authentication to 3 servers is pretty cool.
Next stage is to tie in the room and resource bookings directly with
the First Class Database on MSSQL so the data is always live
and not copied for manual update onto another database like Access !

A screen grab to follow soon for your information.

Take Care

I am creating a course for every subject in the school next year whether
they ask or not using something similar to this template.
I also have a version of a the moodle demo course that needs a bit of
work (to big to email)

PS: My techs are trying to install a server to your php/mysql
instructions using Windows (they have a little hair left but it is
disappearing fast.
Meanwhile, I am enjoying your excellent course documents.

Hi Folks,

I am trying to put together a PD for critical/essential moodle
functions for the classroom teacher.
Are there any kind souls out there who may have already done this work
who are willing to share ?
It would save several hours of prep time and I would be grateful for any
help.

Kind Regards

Have you tried the User Administration Block (
http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=893). It allows mush easier
enrolment and
can use a find criteria to search users, then mass enrol them. I have
found it very useful and time saving.

Thanks,
James
