[Moodle] Moodle award

I had a quick look at Joomla, Drupal and Plone. Plone worried me as it runs fine as a Zope instance (like SchoolTool which I use as a personal calendar manager), but if you scale up it is suggested you fiddle with Apache or something else as a front end. Both drupal and Joomla (like gallery2) are PHP MySQL based, so all the fun tuning MySQL and installing PHP caches for moodle is leveraged! Drupal is supposed to have a moodle module (http://drupal.org/project/moodlesso) but it doesn't seem happy yet. Moodle does have a gallery2 module, and that almost works! I have seen it running, but haven't got it working quite right on my testing server for deployment in the wild. 

Be nice to have one "portal" to login and access a whole range of content managers and services. (Ultranet?) We are testing OneOrZero for a help desk management system, can't get the LDAP to work proper, but you can just copy across the user table info from moodle if needed. So I guess a quick hack is to rip out the login info from the moodle MySQL table and insert it in what ever other table you need. Should work for Joomla and Drupal as well. At least that takes care of the authentication issue, sort of.

Brown has poked around with Plone. :-)

I think Drupal is better suited as the WWW or glossy front end website for
schools. There are a mind-blowing collection of different modules that you
can download and configure. Still not sure what can fit in between Drupal
and Moodle.

You know that outside the classroom and inside the school gate, spans a
tough and mostly empty territory. An open savanna where crusty old lesson
plans from a school digital resource bank are blown along by the winds of
change, like tumble weeds rolling through a mostly empty virtual staff room.
Good folk learn that is safe to stay indoors. Brave ones like you push on
with good ideas like cattle running between the rooms. Yeee haaa (Sound of
whip cracking)

Before I scare you all off. I am looking for any prairie dwelling IT
educators interested in joining me with my plans to redevelop of the VITTA
website for 2008 or as a reference group. Contact me off-list for details
