[Moodle] Open Source Student Behaviour Tracking Software?

Stephen, spot on with your observation that note that teachers would
be reluctant to jump through hurdles to fill in oodles of fields and
forms. I sometimes think that the behavioural reports that staff fill
in after incidents has as much to do with venting teacher feelings as
it has to providing information.

My past experience with an online behavioural system was that the
Assistant Principal who helped designed the database forms, ended up
being the only one that used the system. Other staff preferred to
scribble notes on bits of paper or use the old carbonated forms.
Sadly, the only online databases that worked were the ones that I used
and maintained.

I had a similar experience with the first computer maintenance job
tracking system that designed several years ago. Whilst it was a
relational popup, pulldown, tickbox marvel, and despite my directions
.. nobody used it. After talking things through with the technicians,
we ended up with a simple, flat database (autonumber, usercode, date
and memo fields) that upon reflection has more in common with a
weblog. Some simple reports can list work, users or search/edit
particular records. Oddly enough, the newer online PD database that I
built in 2003 only had the fields staffcode / year / datetext / memo
but it is being used with no intervention from me and happily
generates reports of all the PD attended by staff for the year.

Thinking back now, I am wondering if this is all that we ever needed
for a student behaviour tracking system. A kind of online weblog with
a studentcode field and a few fields for staff to fill in with
edit/search/reporting functions.

Regards Roland
