One of the concerns I have about these normalisation discussions is that there appear to be a lot of issues conflated into a single word 'normalisation', hence not leading to clear answers.<br class="">
For example, when one says 'a clear and logical way to explain normalisation' does one mean:<br class="">
- explain what normalisation is<br class="">
- explain why normalisation is needed<br class="">
- explain how to recognise when a set of tables is (is not) normalised<br class="">
- explain what the normal forms are<br class="">
- explain how to arrive at each normal form<br class="">
- explain why each normal form is defined the way it is (what it is trying to prevent/achieve)<br class="">
etc<br class="">
