Dear Mark,

I know I represent the sentiment of this community when I say thank you for
your apology.

Your contributions and assistance extended to your colleagues over the years
are far beyond what is humanly achievable. I know many teachers actively
rely on your wonderful lessons online at vceit.com to cope with the day to
day demands of delivering an ever changing VCE IT curriculum. They also rely
on your assessment tasks, publications, exam post mortems, on line support
and the list just goes on seemingly for ever. Oh, and you do get a huge
level of correspondence directly and always lend a hand in every possible
way - a layer we don't witness online.

I could spend all night enumerating your contributions but I know I wouldn't
be able to cover them all.

On behalf of everyone thank you for your apology and let's get on with doing
the best for our students with the time we have left this year which is no
more than a few weeks of classes.

With thanks

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] My apologies

Hi all, especially Paula and Kevork.

I am really sorry if anyone was upset, insulted or angered by my comments
about the significant change in ITA U4O2. They were never intended to mock
Paula, VCAA, the authors of the study design or anyone. While my concerns
about the issue were real and my enquiries were sincere, I realise I did a
spectacularly bad job at explaining my point politely. While I thought I
was focused on the facts, my comments sound like criticising for the sake of
criticism. I really was not trying to score points or demean Paula or VCAA.
I have no problems with VCAA, and I sincerely respect the wonderful job
Paula does for all of us.

I was mistaken in trying to leaven a very serious issue with humour: it's a
failing of mine that I must address. In reflection, I can also see how I am
unintentionally guilty of breaching Edulists netiquette. No mockery or
derision was intended in my comments, but as a moderator, I should have been
far more discreet.

I really regret it if anyone was upset by what I said. I especially wish to
apologise to Kevork if the reputation of his amazing Edulists has been hurt
in any way by my post. He provides one of the most valuable services to our
profession, and any flak should be squarely aimed at me, not at him.

In conclusion, let me say again that I regret my insensitive post and will
be much more careful in future.

Sincerely,

Mark
