"Australia's top 10 teachers have been honoured for inspiring students in ways that cannot be seen through academic results alone."

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/06/17/3246693.htm

One of them is quoted as saying:

"...a teacher who lifts a student from a failing grade to a pass is just as effective as a teacher whose class achieves straight As."

On another matter I would like to air for comment.
In teaching my Yr12 class. I have been instructed not put in too much effort in with academically low performing students because I wont get much added value to the their end of year score. This has nothing to do with students behaviour.

Is this sound advice?
