[Year 12 IT Apps] FW: cross post - Unit1-2

Great excitement!  I just found a Unit 2 exam which I downloaded from the website for the Potts textbook.  It's a bit of a complicated process to get the resources as you have to register (from memory) and tell them that you are using their book, how many kids, what bookseller you use, etc.  Once registered, there are sample SACs as well as exams.  I wonder if there would be one for ITA as well?

All we received was a revised version of the Unit 1 exam (I used this as a practice exam mid-year), nothing yet for Unit 2.....

This would be fine except I have had about 5 students pick up IT in Unit 2 without undertaking Unit 1, so it would be unfair to set the VITTA exam for them at this stage.

I thought that VITTA had sent out a revised edition of the Unit 1&2 exams. I certainly have them in separate forms.

If you raised this issue 4 years ago, why hasn't anything happened?  Does there really need to be a meeting of the VITTA committee to get all this sorted out?  Clearly there is a need - I can't understand what the problem is .

Perhaps we should all get together and contribute say 3 multiple choice questions and a couple of short answers, put them on line for others to edit/use and we would have a Unit 2 exam in no time (without having to pay for it)

I would be interested in knowing what others think and if they would be willing to participate - perhaps we could set up a google docs area to share, which could be added to once we get a bit further through the course

Actually, this issue was raised about 4 or 5 years ago, but nothing happened from VITTA and I wrote my own separate unit 1 and 2 exams.

Just to let you know that VITTA has produced a combined Unit 1 & 2 Exam pack for many years. We thank Brendyn for his suggestion of producing  separate Units1 and 2 Exams. This has been placed as an agenda item for discussion at the next VITTA committee meeting for the 2012 exams.

Quite agree, Brendan.  VITTA should supply a separate exam for Unit 2, as they did for Unit 1 as most schools have end of semester exams rather than just end of year exams.  This also caters for students who didn't do Unit 1 and have picked up IT in Unit 2.  I hope there are sufficient requests via this list (and direct emails) to ensure this happens.

On your other point, I did use some of the questions from the VITTA exam but had to modify section B a bit as I felt there were too many Design questions and not enough questions on the basic IT theory (eg. PSM, phases of info processing, etc.)

Apologies for a bit of a cross post.

I have purchased the unit 1-2 exams from VITTA. When they arrived last term, they came as combined Unit 1-2 exams, ie questions from both units in one exam. I contacted them and they subsequently sent through a Unit 1 only exam. I now want a Unit 2 exam.

My question is do any of you use these exams and do you use them as combined Unit 1-2 exmas or do you separate them out?

I'm a bit bemused that they have offered the exam products in this format.

Any comments?
