[Year 12 IT Apps] time for some exam discussion

Ok,
 
I'll start the ball rolling.  I thought the multiple choice section was pretty easy - Q1 just plain silly!  (gee I'm glad I sat through a whole year of ITA  so I could answer that one.)
 
Then we get to Q 7 & 8, 9 12  - again, way too easy.  
 
Q19 - evacuation procedures for back up files?   Does this mean that someone marches off with the backup files if the building is evacuated?  This kind of assumes they were dumb enough to store it in the same location originally.   Or have I missed something here and its just one of those cunning distractors? 
 
short answer: Q3b - list two things...... pretty vague - are they talking ethical considerations?  legal issues?  technical constraints?  or is it just open ended and pretty much anything is OK.
 
Q4 - nice to see the wiki get a mention
 
Q5,6,7,8 pretty straight forward.  
 
Q9 - I had trouble with the term layout being used in this context.  If you look up "design elements" in the textbook, it refers to Proportion, orientation, clarity & consistency, colour & contrast. This is what the kids learnt.  I think the term layout would have made them uncertain as to which one to discuss.   Similarly with relevance - not really a design element, but rather a property of a good interface.   I would be interested to know what others think about this question. 
 
Q10 - the Pert chart strikes back!  
 
Q11 - a(i) and (ii) and (b) - more suitable for a junior maths class.
(c)  - more at the level I would expect of a VCE student
(d) - obviously kids need more practice (after last year's storyboard) in designing products
(e) - ethics - interesting question and much better worded than last year's!  It should make them think (a bit).
 
Q12 - very easy.  Although I suspect my lesser students still don't know how to do a vlookup or an if statement (even after all my best efforts - sigh!) .  I can't remember if we did a specific task on sheet referencing (suspect not), but some of the better students might get 12 (c).    12(d) seems to demand a bar or column chart for easy comparison of monthly petrol expense, 12(e)  could be achieved by making a macro or using mail merge.
 
So all in all, not too many gripes (except for Q9).  Most of my kids seemed pretty happy with their efforts. As an exam I would rate it about 8/10   what do others think???
