Hi Robert,

Very Legal.

As each email can be construed as a work of intellectual property by the
person creating said email, it falls under works of copyright. The
disclaimers at the bottom are just highlighting the fact about the
possibility of that document being a copyrighted work and how the author
would like it to be viewed.

Refer to
http://www.copyright.com.au/info%20sheets/PA20_copyright%20and%20the%20inter
net.pdf
For information.

Note I don't have a footer on mine as it is meant for the public domain. If
I didn't want the information forwarded, then I would have a footer
indicating what the distribution rights of the document should be limited
to.

Regards
Malcolm

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] Those email "footnotes"

Many of us have footnotes at the end of our emails that read something like
(and this is from my last email from Kent Beveridge via the ita list)

"This email and any attachments may be confidential. You must not disclose
or use the information in this email if you are not the intended recipient.
If you have received this email in error, please notify us immediately and
delete the email and all copies. The School does not guarantee that this
email is virus or error free. The attached files are provided and my only
be used on the basis that the user assumes all responsibility for any loss,
damage or consequence resulting directly or indirectly from the use of the
attached files, whether caused by the negligence of the sender or not. The
content and opinions in this email are not necessarily those of the School."

Now some of this is fine. But I wonder about the statement

"You must not disclose or use the information in this email if you are not
the intended recipient."

Legality?
