[Year 12 IT Apps] SW on teacher laptop...

Another option is to get an external hard drive. It's cheaper and if
your laptop fails you plug into another machine and away you go. Mine
has saved me a few times. The most convenient are USB-powered not
mains-powered.

That is what triggered all this. My old R52 is 60GB and almost full
(55GB) and the new one next year is already old and is only 120GB and
will not see me out another 3 years - so, I am going to get my own.

from what I have found out the machine is the same one as the last roll
out with only very slight increase in some hardware specs so if you want
to know about it go and see one of your colleagues that have one.. just
remember it will come out with everything (apparently) working....

cheers

Deb

Hmm, thanx Frank (and Debra), I guess I can purchase licences and claim
a tax deduction at the least.

On another note, I wonder if this is a plan to reduce the number of
teacher rental machines? Given that the current replacement laptop is
very light-on specs-wise?

Good people, I have been loading the School's licensed SW onto my
teacher laptop so I can develop exercises @ home etc.

I believe that this is OK if you are using the SW for teaching or to
assist your teaching.

Anyway, after receipt of a recent DEECD email re the laptop rollout
program, I have decided to purchase my own and hand my creaking old R52
back.

My question is, does this change anything re the use of the laptop and
the SW I may download onto same?

I believe that nothing changes legally, but I thought I should just
check with my peers.
