[Year 12 IT Apps] OT - Lenovo R61 issues

Laurie
We got new laptops at the beginning of the year and had the same
problems.\
But once Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for Vista a lot of the
problems disappeared.
Far from me wanting to praise the work of Microsoft, Vista work
beautifully now.

If you right click on the Computer item in the menu and choose
properties, or choose the System icon in the classic view of the Control
Panel, it should list Service Pack 1 under the Windows Edition
information at the top.
If it is not listed I recommend installing it immediately - available
from Microsoft's web site. And I wonder what on the earth the
technicians were thinking by pushing out laptops with it.

Well I just received my new R61. I feel like a kid who asked for Meccano
for
Xmas and was given Lego!

- They don't automatically map our network drives;
- they don't play nicely with our wireless;
- users can't set the proxy in Internet options, and I don't want the
job of
teaching them how to add Firefox's switch proxy tool;
- we're going to have fun with all the new .docx documents being created
and
I don't want to have to teach the staff how to create compatible files;
- users can't disable the password request that appears after the
machine is
idle; and,
- even as the administrator, I can't shrink my hard drive to create
partitions for my various sandboxes and trials.
- Oh, a plus - Vista's pretty - but not up to KDE standards!

On the whole, in configuring a machine for productive work, the provider
has
succeeded in making a really nice home computer that is useless in the
office. Why didn't I buy the old R51?

K.R.A.P.

Keep the faith ;-\

Laurie

I was told by the notebooks people that the actual collection of old
notebooks begins 11 August, and that the 30th of July is a 'flag day'.

But who knows what's right any more.

Failure to return or purchase your notebook will incur a non return fee
of
$500. Returning your notebook after the deadline will incur a late
return
fee of $100
