[Year 12 IT Apps] RE: Markbook on Vista

Of course the problem would then be that the bureaucats might be able to use Microsoft Project (an unnecessary skill).. but still have NFI about how to actually manage a project.

I suppose the question is why the Ministry changed to Vista, I mean all the computer manufacturers I deal with give you a free XP "upgrade" disk.

We manually move teachers Markbook files to their my document folder other wise they forget to tell us about them when the YouTube videos and pirate music they download corrupts their HDD.

Just on that Vista image problem, I have been slagging the competence of the technicians who put it together. However today I spoke to someone with some intimate knowledge of the whole system and apparently the techs were given next to no time to prepare the image because of the timeline between the settling of the tender and the supply of notebooks into schools was just unbelievably tight.

Perhaps some of these bureaucrats, overseeing these programs, should do IT Applications and learn something about Project Management, because they certainly want us to shove it down our kids throats. Let's introduce them to Microsoft Project and actually have them plan a feasible timeline to design and implement new systems because I see precious little evidence of competent project planning in much of what the department wheels out!

sorry ..... got me on my hobby horse!

I can't replicate the Vista/Markbook problem

on my own Vista installation, but I haven't tried with a department
machine.

The Vista image is appalling and our staff are jacking up, blaming the
technology and rather than its implementation. A shame really because I've
come to like Vista - MS have finally "discovered" a sensible folder
architecture. Oh, wait, Unix has been doing the /users/<name>/<folders>
thingy for about 30+ years; Mac since 1984; OS/2 since 1989 and Linux since
1993! Windows - back to the future!

Had the same problem with vista. You need to change permissions of the
markbook folders so that users have modify rights ...... Thank you who
ever set up the Vista image in the department.

Really sorry if this has been discussed previously but this problem just
appeared for us. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with
getting markbook to update on Vista machines? Vista users are getting a
"Path Access" error.
Any advice would be much appreciated,
Cheers
