[Year 12 IT Apps] Answers...

I think you have hit the nail on the head Maree - I would like to know how many schools have scrapped IT in the junior levels (which I think is a mistake) in the hope that others (English? SOSE? Maths?) will pick up the slack. It is my experience that some of these teachers don't have the skills themselves to confidently teach IT. Also the VELS courses seem to be chockablock anyway, without having to turn around and teach IT skills as well.

At our school we are still "battling on" against the tide - we still have Year 7 and 8 IT as core subjects for two periods a week for one semester. Then there are electives in Years 9 & 10 (3 or 4 periods a week). We must be doing something right, as our numbers are actually up on previous years - 2 Year 11 IT classes (one is a combination of Year 10s and Year 11s), 2 ITA classes (about 30 students in total) and a Systems class of about 8.

I attibute this mostly to the fact that IT is seen as a subject in its own right, there is a clear pathway, and students actually like using technology. I agree that the SACs are becoming more and more like CATs - they take way too long to do, are overly complicated and absolute hell to mark. I expect that it will take me an hour each to thoroughly mark each SAC 1, then probably about 20 mins for SAC 2. So that's about 30 hours during these school holidays just for marking (some of which I will have to go into school for to access their home directories).

Spose I should be greatful, though that next year is looking healthy :-)

Enjoy the hols,

ITA is not running here at Toorak College either - which is very disappointing for me, as we have also had good results. The students below Year 12 have not had any 'core' IT classes and when this is the case, it is difficult for them to pick it up in Year 12 and learn the entire study. They are choosing subjects that have been given a 'pathway' through the school, and that frankly makes it easier on them.

ITA is not running here at Firbank next year, despite good results over the
years. Very sad (and a very sore point with me).

By the way Brendyn ... I think you forgot to attach it.

All

Here is my suggested answers for the Superior Auto SAC.

I have not completed the last few.

I have written my answers in teacher form not full students ans form.

Maybe it will help others.

Have a happy hols everyone.

We going through subject selection at the moment. I had 21 students
this year. Next year I think I will be teaching SOSE. Struggling to get
the kids for ITA 2008.
What are others finding?

Regards

Brendyn
