[Year 12 IT Apps] Blogs etc

Morning all,
On the topic of Blogs et al, I presume that this relates to the topic of virtual exchange of information. Is that just a fancy term for what we do here on the list, or is it more like a 'chat room'. I am not familiar with 'Blogging' as it is something that I have not previously used.
Question:
In the forum that I have been watching about this topic, I notice that nowhere has there been mention of how it will be attacked in the examination period. That is, what type of approach would be most likely used for the purpose of examination of the students? What specific levels? Has anyone got any sample questions for the uninitiated to look at. etc.
Also, apart from moodle(aparently the right flavor for this topic), are there other pieces of software that meet the criteria that are ' VCAA' approved(is there a list like the one for selection of computer programming languages?). If yes, where can we access this list of recommended software?
Oh, one more, how do we determine if someone is Blogging at a level suitable for the new VELS standards, and where is it written?
Kent.

No you are not ignorant - more likely just another overworked underpaid teacher trying to get through a hot Friday and hanging out for the weekend!!

Smile - you have about 62 hours before you have another class!!!

I wanted to let Zach know that things could be worse than being a teacher - he could be trying to run a business with 25 staff!!

My hubby works over 100 hours per week, clears less than a first year apprentice (per hour) and we are mortgaged to the hilt after purchasing the business almost 4 years ago, and the loan is not tax deductible!!!! I love it when ppl say they want to quit and start their own business...hehe. Or when they gripe about their job (I have to work another 10 hours per week doing the books, pays, paying business bills online, super, workcover, BAS statements, PAYG tax crap etc etc!!)

Anyway I have downed the second flat white now, had a screaming match with my teenagers as to why they should help me clean up this hell hole.... Ah WTF all is cool!!! *smile*

Cheers (hic)

Ros

I humbly apologize for my ignorance! I am a mere mortal. I think I'll just go and have that drink now....

Subject: RE: [Year 12 IT Apps] Non ITA list content --- from the Administrator

Hi Folks and Colleagues,

This issue comes up every six months and is never satisfactorily resolved.

From my point of view the following are the issues:

   1. Despite the presence of 20 , yes 20 different lists with memberships
ranging from 50 to over 500, all related to IT, the itapps lists
remains the "go to " list whenever there is a question on any topic -
even non IT.
   2. Not all IT teachers are itapps teachers. Many schools no longer have
itapps running and so valuable information never reaches those people
unless they join or remain on the itapps list.
   3. Those who are itapps teachers may not be working on or responsible
for OT posts that only dilute the rightful place of the itapps list to
help teachers teach itapps. So, their frustrations rise as they have to
wade through the chaff to reach the wheat. This is known as a high
chaff to wheat ratio list due to the non itapps posts.
   4. A high number of non itapps posts reduce the quality of the itapps
list. It can charm, but usually frustrates subscribers.
   5. Several years ago, an offtopic list was set up specifically for IT
teachers. Let's use it and get onto it.
   6. Let's redirect or repost messages to the right list so we can better
manage the content of each list for the task it is intended.

Surely as IT teachers we are capable of using the technology correctly.
Let us encourage ( not criticise or condemn ) each other to use the
correct list for the appropriate topic.

Happy hour in 10 minutes ....... bring it on

Best Wishes
