Our students are limited to educache - I am still fighting against the
fact that our students are living in the informational dark ages!!!

It is a pain having YouTube blocked and as Cameron says it means that
teachers need to spend time(and money ) at home saving educational
videos.
A reasonable alternative for educational videos is TeacherTube
(www.teachertube.com) which is not blocked at our school.

I wish we didn't have it blocked courtesy of DET. I now have to spend my

weekend mornings (so as to use my Optus bonus download limit) 
downloading the videos I want to use in class. I use the historical 
footage you can easily find, I use bike trick videos for my physics 
classes, I use the myriad of "how to" videos, today I am using footage 
of open-heart surgery in conjunction with my yr 8 sheep-heart 
dissection. There are so many useful videos on there, but of course you 
only need 1 or 2 awful ones to make it a media issue and it's all 
blocked. (sigh)
Again, the kids can see all of it at home, possibly/generally(?) 
unsupervised, whereas they are not allowed to use it in a supervised 
classroom environment.
Also makes it harder for us to try and monitor whats going on with our 
(and neighboring) students. Can I show them examples of good and bad web

practise on MySpace? No.  Do I know if they are involved in un-savoury 
activities on YouTube? How can I, I can't even see it at work.  Do I 
want to spend my after hours and my home/personal download time 
occasionally checking on MySpace and YouTube? Not really- but makes a 
good tax case.
