USING computer games as an educational tool has won international
recognition for Tasmanian teacher Margaret Meijers.

Mrs Meijers is one of two Australian recipients of the Microsoft Innovative
Teacher Award, which includes an invitation to visit the "School of the
Future" in the United States.
The use of computer games to develop learning skills in her New Town High
School students was commended by Vincent Quah, Asia-Pacific regional
director of software company Microsoft's Partners in Learning program.

For six years, students in her classes have been using computer technology
to develop a variety of games from simple mazes to complex, multi-level
challenges.
