We're in the middle of starting this ourselves.

My interests are thinking skills and web design. I'm developing a program from 7 to 10 that tries to deal with the structured nature of web documents. We will try to use the idea of outlining ideas via web authoring (visualising thinking skills). We are looking at how we can incorporate concept mapping in the mix using software (CMap tools) and post-it notes, crayons, butcher's paper etc.

So far this is a glint in my eye and a few notes written in Amaya (the W3C's free authoring tool that I'm assessing).

We see that this as an effective way of preparing students to utilise ICT in other KLAs more effectively. With such a unit, IT teachers would be able to teach the required foundation (basic) skills in a consistent manner. Ideally one would rather have this type of unit in Year 7, but curriculum restructuring last year lead to computer studies beng deleted from the year 7 curriculum.

Also, I am currently evaluating how the book 'Practice IT' book 1 (new edition) could fit into such a programme. For example, if you have experience in the use of Practice IT, how many units from the book have you found you can complete in a semester?
