hi zach, (i'm writing this on behalf of our timetabler, Chris)

i understand your problem completely.

we block 11 and 12 but 10 are separate. 70% of our 9's are blocked as are
all languages in 7 & 8 (French, italian, japanese).
we also have a special program for years 8 & 9 that run on a the same friday
per cycle (2 weeks). this means only 2 of our 13 blocks of our vce can be
put on a friday.

we have 65 staff, 20 part time between 0.4 and 0.9 - timetablers nightmare.

recommendations -

1. get rid of all part-timers (joke)
2. could you block 11 and 12 independantly from year 10?
3. you may need to modify staff loads to accommodate timetable issues.

Subject: [Year 12 IPM] Timetable-OT

Hello All,

I have a question for those timetablers out there primarily to do with
the structure of the TT. We have Years 12,11,10 fully blocked (6
blocks) but year 9 have core subjects in their form groups with
electives that are blocked.

Years 7-8 are all core subjects with only languages (German) blocked.

I'm trying to work out an easier way of doing the timetable. How many of
you fully block all year levels or use a combination of banding with
core and elective subjects?

I'd be interested to hear the different approaches.

Thanks,
Zach Alexakos

Ps: we have a staff of 62, 24 part timers, 14 of whom are 0.6 and 9 of
those take one VCE class, with some taking more than one VCE class.
Some of the VCE staff are in 3 blocks, including some 0.6 part timers.
