[English] National curriculum feedback

There is much which is at the core of English teaching, which we do already but...

I am most angry about the political spin which has been put on the subject. Politics will always influence what we teach... but English in Asia??? What happens to our multicultural society, to the European culture and the waves of other culture who have populated our country?

Aside form that I don't think the course is structured appropriately. I hate the three course sections which appear to divide the grammar from the rest of the course when in my opinion we should be teaching grammar in context, and as far as I can see the other two sections overlap extensively. (Sorry can't be bothered looking up the headings)

The document is poorly expressed, full of jargon and is consequently not easily accessed, although the version with the elaborations is a grand improvement. The Nat Curric hasn't taken into account the needs of the ESL student in the mainstream classroom (and we know there are many)

Humour as a focus for year 7 strikes me as ridiculous (again problematic for ESL students, especially when we bare in mind that humour is a cultural concept) Perhaps we can all look forward to their focus on innuendo!!!
 etc etc
I've already commented on the ACARA web site.
enough Have to teach now.

No submissions from me because 1) I'm too cynical to imagine that any
submissions will have any effect, and 2) I'm teaching Yr 12, which, given
the number of SACs in Semester 1, is taking all my thinking time.
The national curriculum will have to do without my input.
