Hi Jill,
Thanks for letting us all know about this. I've just sent off the
following response. It probably won't be published on line but at least
the will know that there arae plenty of people out there who still
value some degree of diversity in education.

Cheers,
Graham

"I am astounded at the number of respondents on this SBS forum who have
been seduced into believing that more uniformity is always better. Do
they want SBS to be the same as all the other channels, too? The ACER
report that Julie Bishop and the PM refer to in recent speeches records
that there is already significant consistency in subject areas across
the nation. The same report acknowledges that areas such as English
already have significant agreement about principles of teaching and
learning English. This is because there is already a National agreement
about English curriculum in Australian schools. We should learn from the
UK and the US and see the devastating effects on schools and communities
of overzealous craving for conformity. Let's reflect on why we watch
SBS and remember the value of diversity in our democratic society."
