Dear Principal

I would like to introduce myself as an international story-teller
visiting Melbourne.

Childhood experiences form a rich part of the stories professional story
teller Andrew Wright tells to audiences around the world. "Alas!", the
story teller says "the two lazy pieces of ham in the story of the three
little pigs just had to die. It lets people know that nasty things happen
in life. Not everyone lives happily ever after".

Andrew Wright, International Story-Teller will be in Melbourne from the
25th October – 3rd November, giving a number of story telling
performances. Many will focus around a Halloween theme from; “Grimm’s
Grimmest” to “Murder Meat-Pies and Mayhem; the story of Sweeney Todd”.
Although Andrew will be available to give other performances from his
repertoire of over 200 stories.

Andrew looks forward to sharing his stories with various Melbourne
audiences, as one reviewer described it "His stories are simple that so
many people can relate to - the glory of scoring the winning try, the
horror of having a tooth knocked out, the ignominy of having to wear
glasses that looked like they had been cut from the bottom of milk
bottles." (NZ press assoc.) Andrew is happy, to discuss visiting your
school, to give either performances or workshops, during his stay in
Melbourne.

Other reviewers have been equally full of praise; "Listen to one of
Andrew's stories and you're transported to a world of weird and wonderful
characters of every shape size and personality." (Rotorua Review)

Andrew traces his love of story telling back to his own childhood. His
mother was blind and he became adept at illustrating things orally.

In the playground he used words to defend himself. At only 167cm even
now, he hardly cut an imposing figure in the school yard as a lad growing
up.

So instead he resorted to humour and sarcasm to beat off the bullies. "If
that didn't work I became a very fast runner" Those childhood experiences
form a rich part of the stories he now tells to audiences around the
world. These stories, as well as a rich collection of folk and fairy
tales, are helping children and adults around the world discover their
own stories and celebrate their own culture and the culture of others.

Andrew's stories promote literacy, reading, listening, communication and
the love of literature, yet most importantly they blend a rich mix of
humour, talent and personal pathos.

"Anyway, storytelling has always been a part of our lives" he says, "from
the guy who spins a good yarn in the pub, to the perennial office joke
teller." Taking people on oral journeys is now a vital part of Andrew's
life, and according to reviews certainly enriches the lives of those who
are lucky enough to hear him.
