[CS4HS] Proposal for a 5/6 study

I would be happy to teach any pilot program for a 5/6 study in 2012 with my
two students who did Software Development this year. They both happened to
be in Year 11 this year and are very capable students. I also have a degree
in Computer Science and am familiar with that type of content.

Any thoughts?

A 5/6 sequence is one that can be offered both at school and at university.
It has a rigour that is equivalent to first year university. This justifies
why students who do the subject during their VCE can get credit towards a
degree at the universities offering the subject. The subject must be
distinct from what is offered within the VCE and from other first year
university subjects.

There would be no prerequisite, however, a 'buyer beware' statement can be
made within the VCE documentation to advise that knowledge of certain
content etc is recommended but not mandated. This is the same as Specialist
Maths in the VCE.

As Steven has invited, any ideas for possible content would be appreciated.

Paula

I think it's a great idea though I have a few questions:

1. Will it be taught in schools be teachers (like 5/6 Physics)?
2. Will SD or ITA 3/4 be a prerequisite?

I'm keen to hear what people think of the idea for a VCE 5/6 study as the
vehicle for making first year university computing content available at VCE
level. Thanks, -Steven _______________________________________________
