started in this job I had only been a part time admin assistant with absolutely
no experience on the HR side of things. I did my 4 days HRMS training and
that was it. I made so many mistakes early on (still do, but not quite as
many I hope) - simply because there was not and still isn't any training on the
policy and procedures side of things. Its not good enough - we are
dealing with people's careers and often their only source of income and we cannot
afford to do the wrong thing just because we haven't been told what the right

concern as I read through both documents. Hopefully the following will be
of assistance in ensuring that employment of all school staff is done according
to Department policy and the law. By the way, although I have sought some
advice on this matter I have not and will not divulge to anyone else, names or

employees in schools. Sometimes there is a view expressed that these
policies, including rates of pay, leave, offer of employment, employment type,
termination provisions etc. are different for school council employees/locally
paid staff. <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>This is not the case.</span></b>
