low income staff who would struggle to find this $amount. I have one

you are referring to is the Working With Children Card which is being
introduced as a result of new working with children legislation. There
was lots of discussion and debate about this legislation in I think it was 2004
when it was being drafted and going before parliament. The check/card
will be required by <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>anyone</span></b> with
unsupervised (eg: by a teacher) access to children and won t just apply to
schools, for example sport coaches might need one. There will be
exceptions such as where a parent is supervising an activity where one of their
children is a participant. The requirement for existing employees is to
be phased in over the next 18 months but I believe new SSOs will require it
from 1 July 2006.<br>
