Australasia-Pacific Extension Network (APEN) International Conference
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Time is running out to register for the Australasia-Pacific Extension Network (APEN) International Conference. Registration places are filling up quickly, it is exciting to see an
excellent diversity of delegates from around Australia and the globe!!

At this conference you will gain new ideas, see examples of what others
are doing, exchange ideas and be re-energised in your job! The broad backgrounds of delegates mean that there is something in
this conference for a wide range of people working in the broad area of
change. Delegates' backgrounds include agricultural and environmental
consultancy and extension, research, international development, health,
policy, psychology and education. To register visit www.apen.org.au/events/2006conf/

As well as a number of workshop sessions where delegates will be able to
interact and apply their learnings to their work situation, we have a wide
range of presentations at the conference.

**Presentations**
13 papers will feature in an expo where delegates will tour a range of stations and get 'tastes' of many
different practice change stories in extension, education and research.

64 papers will be presented in concurrent sessions on a great range of topics under six streams:
- The approaches, methods and tools used in extension/practice change
programs;
- The multiple scales (issue specific project to community or landscape)
at which extension/practice change is applied;
- The partnerships/networking and institutional arrangements necessary
for extension/practice change to be effective;
-  The social context in which extension/practice change operates;
- The evaluation/reflection frameworks for monitoring the performance of
extension/practice change; and
- Sustaining the development of the 'practice' and the practitioner of
extension/practice change.

Keynote speakers will cover topics such as livelihoods of small-holder farmers in
Southeast Asia and the seven diseases undermining sustainable communities
- and their cures. We are really excited to have as our keynote speakers:
* Kate Andrews- Knowledge and Adoption Manager, Land and Water Australia
* Dr Ian Plowman- Psychologist, Facilitator and Social Researcher
* John Connell- Development Worker, Laos
* Professor Stuart Hill- Foundation Chair of Social Ecology & Head of
Program, School of Education, University of Western Sydney

There are also many posters presenting current extension work that will be featured at a poster
session tied in with a social event during the conference. The conference
dinner will showcase the APEN Awards sponsored by Dairy Australia and
great entertainment by the Celtic Larrikins. Other major sponsors include
the Department of Primary Industries, the Department of Sustainability and
Environment, Grain and Graze, and RIRDC and the Cooperative Venture for
Capacity Building as joint sponsors.

The conference, themed "Practice change for sustainable communities: Exploring footprints,
pathways and possibilities," promises an interesting and engaging event.
